Navigator: A Middle School Career Curriculum
| Price: | $140 |
|---|
Navigator: A Middle School Career Curriculum was developed by Mark Madison of Edmonds School District as a comprehensive approach to career exploration and investigation. The curriculum is founded in the Career Development Model. Each activity can be easily adapted to any classroom setting, and is linked with relevant Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements and Benchmarks for middle school. Career decision making is viewed as a process in which individuals pass through four distinct quadrants before arriving at their specific career goals.
The four quadrants are:
- establishing personal goals and a vision,
- assessing one’s skills, strengths, and weaknesses in meeting one’s goals,
- determining the available means and opportunities for reaching one’s goals, and
- actively pursuing the means and opportunities to achieve one’s goals.

Too often young people have little sense or appreciation of their own worth. This may be due to a lack of positive influences in their life or simply unawareness or inattention to their positive attributes. This condition, currently couched in terms of 'low self-esteem,' frequently results in underachievement, negative behavior, or other forms of diminished self expression. The Dependable Strengths process is designed to counter this by helping students discover more of their potential and begin to value their unique strengths.
The Dependable Strengths High School Curriculum is a series of classroom activities arranged in nine sessions. Each session is approximately one hour long, but can be adapted for a school period; anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes.
